Dreams

Q & A with Fr Job:
Question: I wanted to know: I once had a dream that when I read a prayer, I see a light; and if not, then darkness. What should I take away from this dream?

Answer: The Holy Fathers do not advise giving significance to dreams. St John of the Ladder writes: “He who believes in dreams is completely inexperienced. But he who distrusts all dreams is a wise man” (Ladder 3:29). They can at certain times inspire dreams, which might seem wholly inoffensive, even “correct.” When they are convinced that someone wholly believes their dreams, then they inspire some sort of lie in him, with which he can perish.
