Bishop Daniel’s Fables X

Three Deaf Men (Russian, anonymous, 18th century)

A deaf man took to court

Another deaf man. Now,

The judge was also deaf.

The charge? – “He stole my cow!”

The other man replied:

“You ought to understand:

My late grandfather used

To own this piece of land.”

The judge decided: “Why,

Dear brothers, should you fight?

The girl is to be blamed,

But both of you are right.”
